The Energy Efficient Capital Grant is available for Businesses in NI to have a fresh opportunity to slash energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint through a new government grant scheme. The Energy Efficiency Capital Grant (EECG) provides funding to cover up to 50% of the costs for small and micro businesses to purchase and install energy-saving equipment and renewable generation.
About the EECG
The EECG is part of the UK government’s Shared Prosperity Fund aimed at boosting economic growth across the country. It offers grants from £4,000 up to £150,000 to Northern Ireland companies in the manufacturing, processing and services sectors.
The grants can cover a wide range of energy efficiency projects including upgrades to heating/cooling systems, motors, compressed air, lighting and on-site renewables like solar PV. Larger businesses can receive up to 30% funding.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, businesses must be registered and operating in Northern Ireland for at least two years. The projects must be implemented at premises owned or rented long-term by the applicant company.
Funded projects need to demonstrate energy and carbon savings that achieve a payback period of 1-8 years based on the expected energy cost reductions. Businesses will need to provide calculations and quotes for their proposed works.
How to Apply for the EECG
Invest Northern Ireland is administering the EECG programme. Applicants can check their eligibility and access the guidance notes and example application on the InvestNI website.
With energy prices extremely volatile, the EECG presents a timely opportunity for Ulster firms to reduce overheads, future-proof their operations and meet sustainability targets by investing in energy-efficient technology.
The programme opening date has not been announced yet, but we recommend businesses start planning potential projects now to take full advantage once applications go live.
